MIND Achieves Outstanding Results in Prepaid Benchmark

MIND-iPhonEX® Billing System Supports Over Twenty-Five Million Real-Time Prepaid Events Per Hour on Sun Servers

MIND CTI (Nasdaq: MNDO), a leading provider of billing and customer care, accounting and management solutions for voice, data and IP services, today announced the outstanding results of the recently conducted benchmark of MIND-iPhonEX version 5, on Sun Microsystems servers. The benchmark demonstrates the capability to handle 25 million AAA (Authentication, Authorization and Accounting) events per hour using an active prepaid subscriber base of 30 million. These results demonstrate the remarkable real-time rating performance that can be achieved in a similar environment.

MIND-iPhonEX version 5 is a comprehensive, scalable and flexible solution for wireless and wireline operators looking for a reliable and quick implementation of voice, data and content services. The solution provides real-time mediation and service provisioning, flexible rating and billing for convergent prepaid and post-paid services. This version introduces MIND’s new Java-based multi-threaded Real-Time Server, which carries out the mediation and rating tasks.

The benchmark scenarios included tests that simulated prepaid and post-paid business activities. The prepaid tests included real-time Authentication, Authorization, Accounting (AAA) and rating of Voice over IP (VoIP) and Internet access sessions. The post-paid activities included itemized invoice generation and processing, rating and capturing of Call Detail Records (CDRs).

The benchmark was held at Sun Microsystems’ Benchmark Center in Paris in February 2002. Two database server configurations were tested; a high-end configuration that comprised of a Sun Enterprise 10000 with 64 CPUs, and a medium configuration including a SunFire 4800 with 12 CPUs. On both configurations Solaris 8 and Oracle 8.1.7.2 were installed. The benchmark demonstrated the linear scalability of MIND-iPhonEX’s real-time architecture, with performance increase corresponding to the increase of processing power (addition of CPU and memory).

“This benchmark demonstrates our continuous commitment to our customers to develop high performance and scalable solutions”, said Izik Ben-Zaken, MIND’s Vice President of Research & Development. “Our carrier-grade solution is playing a critical role in new technologies such as 3G prepaid mobile. The ability to provide a real-time scalable billing solution for multiple and simultaneous IP services is vital in all new deployments.”

The prepaid scenario demonstrated the processing of over 7,000 VoIP AAA events per second by MIND-iPhonEX. The events included user authentication, authorization, pre-rating, final rating, balance update and CDR storage. The rating processes were based on multi-dimensional, time-sensitive rating plans. In the Internet access test, the benchmark environment simulated 200,000 login and logout operations per minute. Each session processing included the authentication, authorization, rating and capturing of the events. This number represents a workload of 50 million active subscribers. The CPU utilization achieved in the database server was over 97%.

The post-paid scenarios consisted of processing, complex rating and capturing of voice CDRs in the database. The result was the processing of 260,000 CDRs per minute. The bill preparation included the calculation of approximately 2.5 million itemized invoices per day, with 150 items per invoice on average.
